Special note

The Sport & Exercise Psychology subplan, formerly housed in the Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences Department, is moving to EPSY. In the interim, Sport & Exercise Psychology applicants should apply to the Educational Psychology and Research MSE program, Development & Learning (D&L) subplan and note your interest in the SEP subplan in your statement or an email to fritts@ku.edu. We anticipate the SEP program setup to be complete this academic year. When it is, your subplan will be updated in the system. The curriculum is available, and we are happy to consider you for admission. Please also note that while the EPR MSE D&L program deadline for summer or fall applications is January 6, we do have flexibility for the SEP application cycle. If you are looking into applying to this program after 1/6, please reach out to (fritts@ku.edu) to request an extended application deadline.

Program Overview

The Sport & Exercise Psychology (SEP) subplan prepares students both for continued graduate study and employment within applied settings including sport (youth, college, coaching), exercise/fitness (YMCA, Parks & Rec, national chains), and health/wellness (clinical; hospital) programs. The Master’s degree program is structured so that students can progress in meeting requirements for the CMPC (i.e., Certified Mental Performance Consultant) credential if they choose, with regard to completing CMPC required courses and obtaining mentored consulting hours.

Career Outcomes in Educational Psychology & Research

Students who graduate from KU's master's degree in educational psychology & research go on to pursue advanced studies at the doctoral level. Graduates from the program may also take positions working in schools, nonprofits, and other applied settings.
