Biography —
Kristen Hensley is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Counseling Psychology in the Department of Educational Psychology. She also serves as the Program Director for the Master's program in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Psychologist in Kansas. She earned all of her degrees from the University of Kansas (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Counseling Center where she received specialized training in multicultural issues, supervision, and therapeutic interventions. Dr. Hensley worked as a Child and Family Therapist at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in Lawrence, KS, before returning to the faculty at KU in 2008. She served as Counseling Psychology faculty and the in-house clinic director for the School of Education and Human Sciences before moving to her current position in 2020.
Dr. Hensley teaches coursework in skill development, clinical training, supervision, and specific intervention courses. She specializes in the training and supervision of counselors and psychologists, positive psychology, building and nurturing strengths and individual differences, individual (adolescent, adult), couples and family therapy, substance use counseling, crisis interventions, and individuals with disabilities and their families.
