Dr. Michael J. Orosco

Dr. Michael J. Orosco serves as Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas, where he directs the graduate certificate program in Mind, Brain & Education. He leads interdisciplinary research in educational neuroscience that develops theoretical models of learning development in bilingual students, focusing on the social, cognitive, and mathematical mechanisms underlying literacy and problem-solving performance.

Dr. Orosco designs and implements evidence-based interventions that address learning difficulties and learning disabilities, enhancing comprehension and mathematical reasoning among bilingual learners. He bridges educational psychology, cognitive neuroscience, mathematics, literacy education, special education, and general education to meet the unique learning needs of these students across educational contexts.

Dr. Orosco strengthens the sustainability and scalability of his interventions through comprehensive professional development initiatives, ensuring that evidence-based practices translate effectively into classroom settings and sustain over time to support positive outcomes for bilingual learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. Dr. Orosco has secured research funding from the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.
